This tour of 12 days covers
the most important tourist attractions of Southern Peru. You stay
in the cities of Lima, Arequipa, Puno and Cusco and you will be
visiting the Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu among
others. For those people interested there is also the opportunity
of doing a 3 day extension from Lima to Nazca visiting the Nazca
lines and the Ballestas islands.
DAY
01:
Arriving in Lima. You will be picked up from the airport and taken
to the 3 star hotel Santa Cruz in Miraflores. Rest of the day free. DAY 02:
In the morning you'll be picked up from the hotel and taken back
to the airport for the 70 minute flight to Arequipa. Transfer from
the airport to hotel En Sueno which is near the main square of Arequipa.
Rest of the day free to explore Arequipa. We suggest a visit to
the Santa Catalina convent. DAY 03:
You will be collected from your hotel at about 8.30 am to start
our 5 hour journey to Chivay. On route we will stop several times
to take pictures of the wild life. We might see vicuñas,
viscachas, a great variety of birds among them Flamingos. We go
as high as 4850 meters above sea level and will be able to watch
several volcanoes.
We arrive at the small town of Chivay at about 13.30 and you will
be transferred to a comfortable hostel. The rest of the afternoon
is free to go walking or visit the local hot springs. In the evening
there is the possibility to attend a folkshow (optional). DAY 04:
We will have an early breakfast and leave the hotel at about 6.30
AM to drive for about 1.5 hours to Cruz del Condor. At this place
we have got a good possibility to spot condors flying relatively
low. We stay here for about an hour before returning to Chivay.
On route we stop several times at view points and in some of the
small villages we pass like Pincholle, Maca and Yanque. After lunch
(optional) we return to Arequipa where we arrive at about 6.00 PM
and take you to the hostel. DAY 05:
Breakfast and transfer to the airport for your 30 minute flight
to Juliaca. Juliaca is the nearest airport to Puno which is 45 minutes
away. The hotel Sillustani is in the centre of Puno. Rest of the
day free to relax or explore Puno. DAY 06:
Today you will be visiting the Uros Islands on Lake Titicaca and
the pre Inca burial towers of Sillustani.
You will be picked up from your hotel at about 9.00 AM and taken
to the port of Puno where a motorized boat will be waiting for you
to take you to the Uros islands which are about 40 minutes away.
At the moment there are about 40 islands of which you will visit
about three. There is also the opportunity to join a ride on an
original reed boat.
The pre-inca ruins of Sillustani are about 30 kilometers away from
Puno. Here we can admire several burrial towers known as Chullpas.
You will be picked up from your hotel at about 14.30 hrs and the
journey to the site take about 45 minutes. We spend about an hour
and a half to two hours at the site and you will be back in your
hotel late afternoon. DAY 07:
Time table permitting you take the train to Cusco. The journey takes
10 hours and the scenery is fabulous with panoramic views of the
high plateau during the first part of the journey and mountain views
during the second part of the journey. You will be travelling in
Inca class which is the best class available on the train and which
is allows you to use the observation car which is at the end of
the train.
(In case the train does not run or is cancelled this journey will
be done by a special tourist bus)
Upon arriving in Cuzco you'll be transferred to the hotel Cusco
Plaza. DAY 08:
Excursion to the Sacred Valley. This visit last all day and is only
done on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. You visit the small market
town of Pisaq, the ruins of Ollantaytambo and the small community
of Chincheros. Lunch included in a restaurant in the Sacred Valley.
DAY
09:
The morning is free to explore Cusco or go souvenir hunting. In
the afternoon there is a city tour which last for about three and
a half hours and you will visit the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman,
Quenqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay. It also includes the temple
of the sun (Qoricancha) and the cathedral. To enter all this sites
and lots of other sites in the city you need a tourist ticket (BTC)
which comes included in the price. DAY 10:
A visit to Machu Picchu:This excursion last all day. You will be
collected from the hotel and transferred to the train station. The
comfortable tourist train will take you to the small town of Aquas
Calientes from where busses leave to the ruins (+/- 20 min). A guided
tour through the ruins of about two and a half hours followed with
an opportunity for lunch (not included). Some more time to explore
the ruins and then back by bus and train to Cuzco where you will
be transferred to your hotel. DAY 11:
You will be transferred to the airport for your one hour flight
to Lima. Upon arrival you will be taken to the hotel Santa Cruz.
In the afternoon there is a city tour in Lima. DAY 12:
Transfer from Hotel Santa Cruz to Lima Airport for your international
flight out of Peru.
